Annihalation Movie Review

Annihalation Written & Directed by Alex Garland (Ex-Machina, 28 Days Later) Based on the novel by Jeff Vandermeer. Starring Natalie Portman (Black Swan, Thor) Jennifer Jason Leigh (GoodTime, The Hateful Eight) Tessa Thompson (Creed, Thor Ragnarok) Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange, The Martian) & Oscar Issac (Ex-Machina, A Most Violent Year).

A biologist's husband disappears. She puts her name forward for an expedition into an environmental disaster zone, but does not find what she's expecting. The expedition team is made up of the biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist, a surveyor, and a linguist.

Alex Garland is a genius. An up n coming Director with a huge hit on his hands already from Ex-Machina. I didn’t know what to expect from this film but from people who have read the book I been told it’s a great read. Also was told that the movie follows the book pretty well except for a couple of things but it doesn’t take away from it much. This film is a challenge it is an off the wall ride with a third act that will leave you in your chair wondering what the F... just happened. Meanwhile I will say this if you don’t want to think and explore something new this film is not for you. This movie needs to be seen at least twice but I will say this movie starts off fast and never wavers and it is absolutely frightening from the jump.

I didn’t expect I was getting this type of film but this is not really a spoiler but if you don’t want to know anything just stop reading. The beginning of the film about first 15 minutes they basically hand you what is gonna happen throughout the film like who’s gonna make it out alive and who is going to die but that isn’t essential to the film because the atmosphere and the fear and terror is what this film is riding on. The third act is chaotic and it leaves you guessing and you will walk out saying to yourself I don’t understand what I just saw and I don’t know how to feel about it but the more you think about it the more and more you will appreciate it. There are scenes in this film that will stay with you for a long long time and the imagery of those scenes are so terrifying you might become squeamish. Enjoy the ride.

The visuals in this film are incredible it is very trippy you get caught up in it and the movie is really good but again the third act of this film will divide a lot of people. You can hate this movie or love this movie there really is no in-between. I appreciate this film because I love movies that take chances and don’t spoon feed everything to the audience if you want details handed to you on a silver platter this film is not for you at all. As far as Natalie Portman who I appreciate as an actress but has not been that great in films lately in this movie I thought in the beginning she was gonna ruin the film again with how she is presented but you start to understand as the movie flows why she is like that. She was outstanding in this movie. The director again is the star of the film. I love the chances this movie took I just don’t think this film will be enjoyed by a lot of people because a lot of answers are left up in the air for the audience to figure out and nowadays nobody likes to work for anything.

My Final Score: 8.1/10

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 91%

Glass Movie Review

“Glass” Written & Directed by M. Night Shyamalan (unbreakable, Split) Starring James McAvoy (X-Men, Split) Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Unbreakable) Sarah Paulson (Carol, 12 Years A Slave) Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The Witch) & Samuel L. Jackson (Avengers, Django Unchained).  Security guard David Dunn uses his supernatural abilities to track Kevin Wendell Crumb, a disturbed man who has twenty-four personalities. Unbreakable to me is an amazing movie and M. Night did have his downs and lost his touch and fan base with follow up releases. I remember sitting in the theater and the first trailer for “the visit” came on and when his name popped up as director the entire audience laughed. I will say however when I saw “the visit” I thought M. Night was getting back in form so when split hit it was truly a great movie especially the tie in at the end with David Dunn letting us know that it was connected to unbreakable. So let’s talk about the closing of the trilogy that is “Glas...

First Man Movie Review

“First Man” directed by Damian Chazelle (Whiplash, La La Land) screenplay by Josh Singer (Spotlight, the Post) Based on the book by James R Hansen. Starring Ryan Gosling (La La Land, Crazy Stupid Love) Claire Foy (The Crown, Breathe) Jason Clarke (Planet of the Apes, Mudbound) & Kyle Chandler (Argo, Super 8) A Biopic on the life of the legendary American Astronaut Neil Armstrong from 1961-1969, on his journey to becoming the first human to walk the moon. Exploring the sacrifices and costs on the Nation and Neil himself, during one of the most dangerous missions in the history of space travel. Damian Chazelle is a master when it comes to incorporating story with music and has proved it with La La Land and Whiplash. Here he is again working with Ryan Gosling on a character piece and thinking about it now all of his movies focus solely on character more than anything else. There has been controversy about is this movie patriotic why the flag was not shown planted and all this...
