Tomb Raider Movie Review

Tomb Raider Directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave, Escape) Screenplay by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Sherlock, Captain Marvel) & Alastair Siddons (In The Dark Half, Trespass) Starring Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Ex-Machina) Dominic West (The Wire, The Forgotten) Walton Goggins (Predators, The Hateful Eight) Daniel Wu (New Police Story, Warcraft) & Kristin Scott Thomas (Only God Forgives, The English Patient.

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father's global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he's truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can't understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death. Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad's last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn't be higher for Lara, who-against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit-must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.

So this is a rebooted of the Angelina Jolie 2001 Tomb Raider film which was decent but not good for the time it came out. These past couple of years the Tomb Raider games have gotten a lot better and more violent so it was time for a remake. Typically no Video Games have ever translated to a movie and have been good films so did the new Tomb Raider break that mold? Was getting Academy Award Winner Alicia Vikander make the movie bearable and watchable and actually decent? Let’s talk about it but before I start this let me just say to you losers and retards who had an outrage over the casting of Lara Craft with small boobs need to grow up.

I was very happy with the choice of sorta taking the 2013 game and having elements from that placed in the story of this film where Lara Craft has to learn along the way sorta like John McLain in the first Die hard film which made it more realistic in a way. The movie from the beginning sets up a lot of things that she learns physically and mentally for the climax of the film which was great because you don’t see her do things that are crazy in the end where there are questions because they are answered in the beginning of the film. So the first half of the film I was really enjoying because it wasn’t crazy and over the top. When she gets to the island is when it becomes CGI heavy and takes a lot away from the film as she tries to solve puzzles and jumping over things. I thought Alicia Vikander was Great as Lara Craft I just feel like the second half of the movie was very very dull to me to the point where I can hear myself say this is from that movie and that is from that movie too much. The visual effects were not all that good especially the one scene in the boat you can tell how fake it is and even with good characters and acting you just can’t save a bad looking film.

The Amazing Alicia Vikander herself could not save this film and the worst thing about movies these days is most studios and directors go into movies with the idea of a sequel in mind rather than just focusing on this one standalone film. I will say the movie is not bad it’s not great it is a decent watchable movie because the lead actress does really well in the movie. She saves this film with her acting even when she is not speaking you can feel her prescience with her expressions. She is not a super hero she is vulnerable and that’s what makes her character so great that you care I just wish the script was a little tighter.

My Final Score: 6.5/10

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 47%

Glass Movie Review

“Glass” Written & Directed by M. Night Shyamalan (unbreakable, Split) Starring James McAvoy (X-Men, Split) Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Unbreakable) Sarah Paulson (Carol, 12 Years A Slave) Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The Witch) & Samuel L. Jackson (Avengers, Django Unchained).  Security guard David Dunn uses his supernatural abilities to track Kevin Wendell Crumb, a disturbed man who has twenty-four personalities. Unbreakable to me is an amazing movie and M. Night did have his downs and lost his touch and fan base with follow up releases. I remember sitting in the theater and the first trailer for “the visit” came on and when his name popped up as director the entire audience laughed. I will say however when I saw “the visit” I thought M. Night was getting back in form so when split hit it was truly a great movie especially the tie in at the end with David Dunn letting us know that it was connected to unbreakable. So let’s talk about the closing of the trilogy that is “Glas...

First Man Movie Review

“First Man” directed by Damian Chazelle (Whiplash, La La Land) screenplay by Josh Singer (Spotlight, the Post) Based on the book by James R Hansen. Starring Ryan Gosling (La La Land, Crazy Stupid Love) Claire Foy (The Crown, Breathe) Jason Clarke (Planet of the Apes, Mudbound) & Kyle Chandler (Argo, Super 8) A Biopic on the life of the legendary American Astronaut Neil Armstrong from 1961-1969, on his journey to becoming the first human to walk the moon. Exploring the sacrifices and costs on the Nation and Neil himself, during one of the most dangerous missions in the history of space travel. Damian Chazelle is a master when it comes to incorporating story with music and has proved it with La La Land and Whiplash. Here he is again working with Ryan Gosling on a character piece and thinking about it now all of his movies focus solely on character more than anything else. There has been controversy about is this movie patriotic why the flag was not shown planted and all this...
