Venom Movie Review

Venom Directed by Ruben Fleischer (ZombieLand, Gangster Squad) ScreenPlay by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, Kelly Marcel & Will Beall. Based on the Marvel Comics by Todd McFarland & David Michelinie. Starring Tom Hardy (Warrior, Locke) Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine, Take this Waltz) Marcella Bragio (Sorry to Bother You, Ride) & Riz Ahmed (Four Lions, NightCrawler).

When Eddie Brock acquires the powers of a symbiote, he will have to release his alter-ego "Venom" to save his life.

This movie is very difficult to talk about and in some ways I am torn about it. I think the biggest mistake this film made was not sticking to the rated R theme and you can see it with the way the characters are being portrayed. Some make it seem like this is a dark gritty movie and some are more light hearted knowing it’s PG-13 and that takes a lot away from the film. Tom Hardy as venom especially doing the venom voice is the best part of the film. The action scenes are really good and the fight and acceptance between Eddie Brock and venom is very fascinating. The humor by Eddie Brock however feels really out of place and is not needed.

The CGI is pretty good there are some moments where you can tell but overall it wasn’t that bad in my opinion. The problem with this film is the story. The story is just all over the place and honestly it is not good. The story is a battle between not knowing what it is it wants to be. Does it want to be horror a comedy and action film it’s just all over the place. If you go into this film not expecting too much or anything at all you will enjoy this. If you are a fan of the venom character you will enjoy this. If you are a fan of the venom comics you will not like this film at all.

Final thoughts is that this film is not good storytelling wise it is all over the place and that’s the majority of the film. I will however say the Eddie Brock/Venom dynamic is very good but it depends on if you like the comedy of it and what it tries to do. This movie would have been a lot better had it been Rated R.

Venom from me gets a 6.3/10

Glass Movie Review

“Glass” Written & Directed by M. Night Shyamalan (unbreakable, Split) Starring James McAvoy (X-Men, Split) Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Unbreakable) Sarah Paulson (Carol, 12 Years A Slave) Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The Witch) & Samuel L. Jackson (Avengers, Django Unchained).  Security guard David Dunn uses his supernatural abilities to track Kevin Wendell Crumb, a disturbed man who has twenty-four personalities. Unbreakable to me is an amazing movie and M. Night did have his downs and lost his touch and fan base with follow up releases. I remember sitting in the theater and the first trailer for “the visit” came on and when his name popped up as director the entire audience laughed. I will say however when I saw “the visit” I thought M. Night was getting back in form so when split hit it was truly a great movie especially the tie in at the end with David Dunn letting us know that it was connected to unbreakable. So let’s talk about the closing of the trilogy that is “Glas...

The Commuter Movie Review

The commuter Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Unknown) Story by Byron Willinger (Backward Fall, Paradise Lost) & Philip De Blasi (Command and Control, Skyscraper) Starring Liam Neesan (Taken, Unknown) Vera Farmiga (Up In the Air, The Departed) Patrick Wilson (Hard Candy, Insidious) & Johnathan Banks (Gremlins, Mudbound).  A businessman is caught up in a criminal conspiracy during his daily commute home. Ok I am a Liam Neesan fan I loved the first taken I thought it was great I thought he was fantastic in A Monster Calls doing the voice acting but I’m really tired of seeing the same damn thing over and over. These movies at times can be fun for the cheesiness and just being a dumb popcorn film but when it becomes boring these films become unbearable to watch. I was invested in the first 20 minutes of the film and then the film lost me. He’s been on a plane, his daughter got taken, now he’s on a train. I’m guessing a boat cruise is next. The third act of...
